Meet Laurissa M., Intern

Laurissa Miech is a clinical social work intern with Self Care Impact Counseling.

As a dedicated Social Work Intern, I am deeply passionate about empowering clients to navigate their unique challenges and pursue personal growth. My journey into social work began with a profound desire to positively impact individual’s lives, which was sparked by my own transformative experiences and the healing power of therapy. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s degree in Social Work, where I have acquired valuable insights into a range of therapeutic approaches and interventions. During my internship, I prioritize creating a supportive and safe environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions. This therapeutic space is essential for fostering open discussions, which ultimately lead to the development of healthier coping strategies and enhanced emotional resilience. I am committed to utilizing evidence-based practices, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and strengths-based approaches. Through CBT, I help clients recognize and challenge negative thought patterns, enabling them to cultivate a more positive mindset. Meanwhile, strengths-based approaches allow me to focus on clients’ inherent strengths and resources, guiding them to identify and leverage these qualities in overcoming obstacles. My overarching goal is to foster resilience and self-efficacy in my clients, empowering them to take control of their mental health journeys. I believe that by equipping individuals with the right tools and support, they can navigate their challenges and emerge stronger, more confident, and more equipped to face future hurdles.

Laurissa Miech is currently pursuing her Master’s in Social Work at Grand Canyon University, where she is deepening her knowledge and skills in the field of social work. She previously earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, along with a minor in Sociology, from the University of Wyoming. This educational background has equipped her with a vigorous understanding of human behavior, mental health, and the various factors influencing individual and communal well-being.
